If you love Disney and you’re thinking about visiting Japan, you’ve probably wondered, “Should I visit Tokyo Disneyland or Tokyo DisneySea?” Making this decision is difficult because each of these parks offers a unique experience with a unique touch of magic. I’m here to share our experiences and explain what makes each park unique after visiting both with my family recently so you can choose which one (or both!) should be on your itinerary.

Tokyo Disneyland:
When it comes to many aspects, Tokyo Disneyland is similar to any other Disneyland. Enormous with memories and full of the fun that Walt Disney himself imagined, it is the ultimate Disney experience.
Why my family and I enjoyed Tokyo Disneyland is as follows:
1. Classic Attractions: This area has all of your favourite classic Disney rides, like Space Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean, and It’s a Small World. The park has a similar layout and atmosphere to the original Disneyland in California, but it also has some distinctive Japanese features. When my kids got to ride these rides again, which they had loved at Disney World Florida and Disneyland Paris, they were ecstatic.

2. Themed areas: There is something for everyone in the seven themed areas, which include Adventureland, Westernland, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, Critter Country, Toontown, and the World Bazaar. Tokyo Disneyland offers a variety of experiences to suit all interests, including a Victorian-style street market, flying with Peter Pan, and a Wild West show. My family enjoyed going on Thunder Mountain and Splash Mountain, two of their favourite rides.
3. Family-Friendly Atmosphere: Families with young children will love Tokyo Disneyland. The ambiance is friendly and inviting, and the rides are typically milder here. A memorable experience was witnessing Mickey and Minnie in traditional Japanese outfits. The character meet-and-greets are amazing.
4. Parades and Shows: Tokyo Disneyland boasts breathtaking parades. The “Tokyo Disneyland Electrical Parade: DreamLights” at night and the “Harmony in Colour” parade during the day. They are both must-see events with gorgeous floats, eye-catching lights, and your favourite characters. It was lovely to see the parades with my family.

Tokyo DisneySea:
With good cause, Tokyo DisneySea is frequently hailed as the greatest Disney park worldwide. It offers a unique blend of mystery, romance, and adventure against the breathtaking background of the ocean, setting it apart from other Disney parks. The attraction of the park is enhanced by the recently created Fantasy Springs.
These are the reasons my family thought DisneySea was truly magical:
1. Amazing Theming: Tokyo DisneySea has unparalleled attention to detail. The park is organised into seven themed “ports of call,” each with a unique ambiance, ranging from the towering ruins of Lost River Delta to the Venetian-style canals of Mediterranean Harbour. One of the most spectacular rides in the Disney universe, the exhilarating “Journey to the Centre of the Earth” rollercoaster, is housed in Mount Prometheus, the highlight of the park. My family was astounded by the details and compelling settings.

2. Fantasy Springs: The Most Recent Development: The newest and most enchanting addition to Tokyo DisneySea is Fantasy Springs. Inspired by well-known Disney stories such as “Frozen,” “Tangled,” and “Peter Pan.” It’s a surreal place where imagination comes to life with well thought-out attractions, gorgeous scenery, and engaging experiences that take you directly into these well-known stories.
Frozen Kingdom: Enter the ice wonderland of Arendelle and go on an exciting new journey with Anna, Elsa, and Olaf. With the state-of-the-art ride technology this ride made us feel like we were a part of the story, my kids couldn’t get enough of this.
Tangled: Discover the enchanted realm of this attraction by taking a boat journey through Rapunzel’s forest, which narrates her story from the tower to the festival’s dazzling lanterns. We enjoyed the lovely sight of the lanterns.
Neverland: Don’t miss this thrilling new attraction that takes you on a flight over Neverland with Peter Pan, Wendy, and the Lost Boys. Along the way, you’ll see mermaids, pirates, and more.
3. Unique Attractions: DisneySea offers unique experiences that extend beyond Fantasy Springs. There are experiences like “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” and “Sindbad’s Storybook Voyage” that you won’t discover anywhere else. “Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Crystal Skull” and “Raging Spirits” are thrilling rides that also have amazing storylines for thrill-seekers. My teenagers loved these rides.
4. A More Mature Experience: DisneySea is more sophisticated and mature than Disneyland, even though it is still kid-friendly. Teenagers and adults find the park especially appealing due to its design and the excitement factor of several of its rides.

5. Nightly Shows: Disneyland’s and DisneySea’s nightly performances are equally captivating. “Fantasmic” at Disney Sea is a spectacular display of lights, lasers, explosions, and music that takes place on the waters of Mediterranean Harbour. Mickey fighting his darker side in the water against the stunning architecture of the park creates an amazing show. My family and I were engrossed in this show nonstop.

Which One Should You Pick?
Tokyo Disneyland is the place to go if you want to experience the classic Disney ambiance with all the beloved characters and timeless attractions. Families and anyone else looking to experience the classic Disney magic will love it. But if you had to pick just one, Tokyo DisneySea is my personal pick. It’s an experience like no other because of the recently opened Fantasy Springs, amazing theming, and unique attractions. From exhilarating rides and immersive areas, it has plenty to offer everyone. Among all the Disney parks my family has been to, DisneySea proved to be an incredibly unique and amazing experience. It offers a fantastic day that you’ll talk about long after your holiday is over, whether you’re travelling alone, with children, or as a pair.
